We are pleased to introduce Brian Smith, who has accepted a consultancy role at DGCOS as our Strategy Consultant.
Brian will be working as an advisor and consultant to DGCOS on meetings with Government departments, stakeholders and other trade bodies. He will also be representing the organisation at events and exhibitions, contributing his ideas and experience to our marketing and operational discussions, and various new projects.
Many of you will already know that Brian was Director of Home Improvement & Membership for over 6 years at the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) until August last year. Brian left to set up his own consulting business for the Double Glazing Industry, Retrofit Sector and Trade Bodies. For many years as a trade association representative, he has been attending Government and other bodies’ meetings such as Each Home Counts, TrustMark Forums, National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) meetings, and the British Energy Efficiency Federation (BEEF). He holds non-executive directorships with the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) and RetrofitWorks Limited.
Prior to his time with the GGF, Brian had over 30 years senior operational experience with major national companies in the home improvements industry. Brian has always passionately believed in high-quality service and protection for consumers. Whilst at the GGF one of his roles was to keep abreast of consumer issues and legislation that could affect the GGF’s member companies that operate in the Home Improvement sector, which involved liaison with the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). Brian also headed up the GGF’s Project Team which achieved CTSI approval for the GGF’s Consumer Code of Practice in February 2016, under the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. He is also a certified trainer for the EU Consumer Law Ready course, which provides training to SMEs on consumer rights legislation.
On accepting his role with DGCOS, Brian commented: “I have always been very impressed with the consumer protection offered by the Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme which is the best in the industry and a wonderful selling tool for installation companies when contracting with consumers. I am looking forward to using my vast experience from my senior operational roles both with window companies and the GGF, to the benefit of DGCOS and its members.”
Tony Pickup, Founder of DGCOS, said: “It’s great to have someone of Brian’s calibre join us. His experience within the double-glazing industry is vast and by working together we can achieve great things for our members and the industry itself.“
